Anymaker Doors, Hinges, and Latches
Hinge knuckle, hinge pin, latch knuckle, latch handle — more hardware than a screenshot suggests.
Anymaker doors are hardware, not a missing panel with a texture. Closed-alpha footage treats a working opening as four jobs that have to meet: a hinge knuckle, a hinge pin, a latch knuckle, and a latch handle. Geometa has said the setup is more complicated than expected because it is trying to be realistic. Until Steam Early Access on 18 September 2026, treat every swinging door you see in a video as a method lesson, not as a part number this wiki will invent.
This page stays on openings. Frames, wheel bays, and wrecks live on vehicle building. Fortified houses live on base building. The belt that places the hardware lives on controls. If the door swings and the engine still will not start, that was never a hinge problem: go to engines and wiring.
Why a screenshot door is still a wall
A plate in a doorway is a wall you can walk through in your head. In Anymaker it is still a plate until the moving piece has a hinge that exists in 3D and a latch that actually holds. Build the opening first. Then build the moving leaf so it clears the sill, the frame, and your own shoulder. Then add the hardware. Skipping to a handle because a trailer showed a truck cab is how you get a sculpture that rattles.
The grid is about 8 cm with diagonals. A door one node off will bind when a chassis flexes. Work from a rectangle you can see. Demo v0.0.27 notes mention Hold R to lock the edge tool to the current axes; that lock is documented on controls as one hold, not as a full keymap. Sandbox at launch is the classroom: all parts, infinite supply, noclip, daylight, no enemies. Career will make you loot the next hinge.
Hinge knuckle, hinge pin, latch knuckle, latch handle
Name the four pieces so you stop treating “door” as one component. The hinge knuckle is the knuckle on the frame or the leaf that receives the pin. The hinge pin is the pin that lets the leaf rotate. The latch knuckle is the catch side. The latch handle is how you operate the catch. Alpha footage walks that order because the designers found it more complicated than a typical video-game door. This wiki will not invent extra names, spring rates, or a secret fifth piece.
Place hinges so the leaf swings the way you will actually walk or climb out. A vehicle door that opens into a wheel is a trap. A house door that opens into the only table is a trap with furniture. Leave clearance for the full arc. Inspect with the property tool after each placement. Duplicate a finished hinge only after it actually rotates. Remove/take-apart is how a wrecked van donates a leaf you can study instead of freehanding a first cab on a blank field.
Latches fail in two boring ways: they never catch, or they catch and you cannot reach the handle from the seat or the hallway. Sit in the seat. Stand in the hall. If you cannot operate the latch without clipping the frame, the door is not done. Repair exists because a crash or a bad take-apart will touch this hardware.
Tailgates, engine covers, and yard gates use the same grammar. An engine cover that cannot open is how you fail a fuel line you cannot see. Keep the bay as a room; engines and wiring assumes you can crawl to a clamp. A one-cylinder teaching tractor is a good first victim for a hood that actually lifts.
Vehicle doors versus house doors
On a chassis, the door is part of a moving frame. Body flex, wheel travel, and a belt that sits an inch from the inner skin all steal clearance. Put dummy wheels on early so the leaf does not occupy the well. Do not skin a cab shut and then cut a door as an afterthought. Reverse-engineer wrecks: take-apart plus property teaches a real opening faster than a blank grid. Vehicle building is the parent of that habit.
On a house, the door is how base building stops being a gazebo. Geometa’s line is that the only safe places are those you make. A wall without a latch is a suggestion. Fortify a site you can find twice, then hang a door that closes from the inside. Destruction tests belong on a building you do not sleep in. Career inventory is limited: take the hinge set you need, not a third sofa.
After it swings
A closed door is not a finished vehicle. Fuel, cooling, belts, and cables still have to exist. Survival is the flee-versus-fight page; a latched door is how that fight becomes optional. Co-op needs an agreement about who may take-apart the only working leaf. Microcontrollers can wait; a first gate does not need a graph when a latch handle already exists.
Until 18 September 2026 the game remains upcoming. The embedded early-alpha door video is a hardware walkthrough, not a catalog. Build the opening, then the leaf, then the knuckle, pin, catch, and handle. If it binds, the grid is lying to you. If it swings and nothing starts, you have left this page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about Anymaker building, survival, and Early Access.
What parts make a working Anymaker door?
Alpha footage treats a door as hinge knuckle, hinge pin, latch knuckle, and latch handle. Build the opening and the moving leaf first, then that hardware. Vehicle building covers the frame around it.
Should I learn doors in sandbox or career?
Sandbox at Early Access launch is the cleaner classroom: infinite parts, daylight, no enemies. Career will make you loot hinges. Either way, lock square posts with the edge-tool habit on controls.
Why does my door bind or refuse to close?
The opening is probably not square, the leaf clips a wheel or a sill, or the latch cannot be reached. Inspect with the property tool. Do not add more plates until the arc is clear.
Are house doors different from vehicle doors?
Same grammar, different flex. Vehicles steal clearance with wheels and belts; houses steal it with furniture and destruction. Hang career doors on a site from base building that you can find twice.
Do I need a microcontroller to latch a door?
No. A first gate wants a latch handle you can reach. Save logic for later. If the bay behind the door will not start, that is engines and wiring, not a missing graph.
Should I copy a wreck door or start from a blank opening?
Copy wrecks. Take-apart plus property teaches knuckle placement faster than a blank wall. Duplicate only a hinge that already rotates.
