Anymaker Tools, Input, and Settings
A tool belt you can name, bindings you set yourself, and no fake default key table.
Anymaker is played with keyboard and mouse or a gamepad. Full controller support is a listed Steam feature. This page will not invent a default key table. Bindings live in settings. If a video overlay shows a key, including on the embedded tool-belt video, treat it as that creator’s layout. Open settings, bind the tools you actually use, and only then blame the chassis.
The important split is not WASD versus a stick. It is on-foot survival versus in-world editing versus driving the machine you just bolted together. Those three postures share a body and a camera, and they fight for the same buttons if you never look at the menu. Read Getting Started for the first-hour order. The tool belt, named without a fairy tale
Alpha and demo footage, plus Geometa’s own explanations, put a consistent set of jobs on the belt. Edge places beams and frames. Panel or plate skins faces. Window makes real openings instead of missing walls. Component drops seats, wheels, mechanical fittings, and other parts that are not structure. Remove/take-apart is how wrecks and buildings become inventory. Property inspects what you just placed so you stop guessing. Logic opens microcontroller work. Cable runs electrical paths. Fluid runs liquids such as fuel and cooling. Repair fixes damage. Duplicate copies a bay that already works. Torch or flare is light you carry when the vehicle lamps are off.
You do not need all of them in the first ten minutes. Looting cares about take-apart, property, and torch. First chassis work cares about edge, panel, component, duplicate, and remove. First engines care about fluid, cable, and repair. Logic can wait; that wait is microcontrollers.
Demo v0.0.27 notes also document one axis lock: Hold R locks the edge tool to the current axes. That is the only extra hold this page will name. It is not a default keymap, and it does not replace settings. Use it when a frame or a door opening has to stay square while you extend a beam.
Bind the tools you swap between most on easy controls, whether those are keys, mouse buttons, or gamepad face buttons. Put torch somewhere you can find in a panic. Put remove somewhere you will not hit while repairing. This is the only “meta” that matters, and it is yours.
Property tool is not optional
The property tool is how Anymaker stays honest. A beam looks like a beam until you inspect it and learn it is the wrong piece. A hinge looks placed until you learn it faces the fender. A cable looks connected until a value never changes. Use property after every important placement, not only when something is already on fire.
It is also how you learn wrecks. Career unlocks parts by looting; take-apart without inspect is how you fill inventory with mystery mass. Vehicle building and base building both assume you will read a part before you duplicate it. Engines and wiring assumes you will inspect pulleys and tanks instead of decorating them.
On a gamepad, make property a short motion. On mouse, do not hide it behind a radial you hate. The fine 8 cm grid already asks for patience.
Vehicle edit versus on-foot versus driving
On-foot you are a survivor: hunger, wounds, firearms, melee, inventory. The belt still works because building is in the world, not a separate CAD screen. That is the gift and the trap. You can start a wall in a ditch while a wolf arrives. Learn to put the tool away. Survival is the flee-versus-fight page.
Vehicle edit is the same world, closer to the grid. You walk around a chassis, place nodes, crawl into a bay. Noclip in launch sandbox is for inspecting a belt, not for skipping clearance. Career will not hand you noclip as a lifestyle.
Driving is the third posture: a seat, steering, throttle, maybe lights on a cable. Practice the swap: tools away, drive, stop, tools out. Co-op is easier if one player drives and one stays in the bay. Co-op is the crew-habits page.
Boats and helicopters at Early Access will add helm problems. Do not invent those bindings now. Plan the machines on boats and helicopters, then bind what the launch build actually exposes.
Keyboard, mouse, and gamepad without a fake chart
Mouse is the natural friend of a fine grid. Keyboard is the natural friend of tool switching if you bind a small set well. Gamepad is fully supported, which matters when one player would rather drive than click nodes. None of those sentences is a default map.
Open settings on first boot. Bind move, look, interact, jump or crouch if they exist in your build, inventory, voice or radio, and the tools above. If a control feels wrong, rebind it before you spend an hour fighting a hinge. If a YouTuber insists “the default is…” and you cannot find that default, believe the menu.
If placement feels sluggish, confirm you meet system requirements before you rebind yourself into a corner. DirectX 12 on Windows 10 or 11 64-bit is the floor.
Settings that are not keybinds
Volume for voice chat and radio can save a career night. This wiki will not invent a full settings dump; look. Steam Workshop at launch will not rebind your controller. The build checklist is the order of construction; this page is the order of input. Official channels sit on the Links Hub.
