Getting Started in Anymaker
Wishlist, specs, sandbox versus career, a first chassis, and a bunker you should not rush.
Anymaker’s first hour is not a tutorial island with a gift shop. Geometa wants you standing in a ruined landscape, placing beams on a fine grid, then keeping that machine alive through hunger, weather, and things that bite. Steam Early Access is scheduled for 18 September 2026. Until then the game is upcoming. Treat the Steam Next Fest demo (15–22 June 2026) and closed-alpha footage as homework, not as a launch client.
This page is the practical order: confirm the PC can run it, pick sandbox or career on purpose, assemble a chassis that moves, learn the loot loop, and leave the bunker as a later career goal. Pair it with Controls before you blame the game for a binding you have not opened in settings.
Wishlist, specs, and what this is not
Wishlist Steam app 4435340 so you catch the 18 September unlock. Anymaker is Windows 10 or 11 64-bit with DirectX 12. Use the published minimum and recommended table on system requirements instead of guessing from a YouTube overlay.
The game is not Roblox. There are no redeem codes. It is also not Stormworks 2. Geometa made Stormworks and Carrier Command 2, and Anymaker keeps the appetite for engines, cables, and logic, but building happens in the world rather than in a detached editor. If you came from Stormworks expecting a dry-dock CAD view, reset that expectation now. If you came from a looter-shooter expecting prefab cars with stats, reset that too.
Sandbox versus career
Geometa has promised a sandbox mode at Early Access launch: all parts unlocked, infinite supply, noclip, daylight, and no enemies. That is the table for learning vehicle building and engines and wiring without a wolf eating your lunch. Career is the long save where loot in buildings unlocks parts, inventory space matters, and the world is allowed to hurt you.
Pick sandbox if your first question is “how do I make a door that latches.” Pick career if your first question is “can I keep one save for a long time.” You can, and should, keep both kinds of save once Early Access is actually out. Do not start career expecting sandbox’s infinite pile, and do not start sandbox expecting the bunker to rewrite the loot table.
First chassis, not a masterpiece
The grid is about 8 cm per node and allows diagonals. The useful first vehicle is a short ladder frame, four wheels, a seat, steering, and an engine path you can see. Resist the trailer truck. Edge tools place beams and frames; panel or plate tools skin faces; the component tool drops seats, wheels, and mechanical bits; remove/take-apart undoes a bad bay. Vehicle building goes deep on symmetry-by-hand, hinges, and wrecks. Here, the only goal is a machine that leaves the driveway and comes back.
A pretty body with no fuel, cooling, belts, or cables is a sculpture. If the chassis looks finished and still will not start, stop adding windows and open engines and wiring. Keep microcontrollers off the first buggy unless you truly need a custom switch. Drag-and-drop logic is meant to be easier than Stormworks, but it is still extra surface area on hour one.
The loot loop, then the bunker later
Career progression is not a skill tree on a pause screen. You loot buildings for food, clothes, equipment, building parts, weapons, and the unlocks that make new components appear in your kit. Inventory is limited, so a first hour that fills every slot with chairs will starve the engine bay. Eat when hunger is a meter you can see, not after you collapse. Night, wind, rain, fog, temperature, and lightning are all in the weather list; treat a first dusk as a reason to park, not a reason to “see what happens.”
Wildlife includes bears and wolves. Undead and remaining military forces are listed alongside them. Your first rule is in survival: flee unless you have a melee weapon or a firearm you can actually reload. Do not invent attachment loadouts from a wiki; use what you found and keep ammo counted.
The bunker is a later goal. Underground military and research facilities are part of the fantasy, and the June demo taught that completing the bunker location caused tier 2 and 3 loot to spawn more widely. That is why career bunker exists as its own page. It is not a starter dungeon.
Co-op, Workshop, and what to read next
Online co-op covers building and driving. Voice chat and radio exist so one player can watch the road while another watches the engine. Read co-op before sharing a hungry career save. Steam Workshop is promised at launch, useful after you know what a belt is.
The launch map is planned at about four times the demo, with boats and helicopters, new items, and sandbox. Track that on Early Access. For trailer versus alpha versus demo, use Preview. For a roof once the chassis runs, use base building. Official channels sit on the Links Hub. The build checklist is the short punch list.
Your first hour is a success if you have a moving frame, a little food, a plan for night, and a bunker still sitting on the horizon. Everything else is a sibling guide.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about Anymaker building, survival, and Early Access.
Should I start Anymaker in sandbox or career?
Start sandbox if you want all parts, infinite supply, noclip, daylight, and no enemies while you learn vehicle building. Start career if you want loot unlocks and a long save. You can keep both once Early Access is out on 18 September 2026.
What should my first vehicle be?
A short frame with wheels, a seat, and a visible engine path. Save boats, helicopters, and trailer-scale trucks for later. Use the build checklist and engines and wiring if it looks finished but will not start.
Is the bunker a first-hour objective?
No. Treat it as a later career spike. The June demo showed that finishing the bunker location opened higher-tier loot more widely. Read Career Bunker when the overworld loop already works.
Does Anymaker have codes I should redeem on day one?
No. There are no redeem codes. Spend that time on Controls and system requirements instead.
Can I play the first hour with friends?
Online co-op is part of the design, including building. Agree who drives, who loots, and who watches the clock. See co-op before you share a hungry career save.
